“Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on DPRK”

New York, 26 October 2022

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

Mr. Chair,

Based on our principled position, my delegation firmly believes that the continuation of the practice of selective adoption of country-specific mandates, including the Special Rapporteurship on the situation of human rights in the Democratic People Republic of Korea in the Third Committee of the GA, and exploitation of this platform for political pursuits contradicts the principles of universality, non-selectivity, impartiality, and objectivity in addressing human rights issues. Such politically motivated schemes to stigmatize certain countries undermine cooperation and dialogue as the essential principles for promoting and protecting human rights.

The mechanism of the country reporting in the United Nations must be based on professionalism, justice, non-discrimination, and non-politicization. Therefore, Iran reiterates its full support of the UPR mechanism that attempts to ensure equal treatment of all States.

We urge the United States to lift any unilateral coercive measures against the DPRK and stop violating the human rights of its people. We also request the international community to peruse achieving sustainable development by providing a fundamental guarantee for the development of the DPRK.

I thank you
