Interactive Dialogue with Independent Expert on International Solidarity
New York, 20 October 2022
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
Mr. President,
My delegation takes note of the report delivered by the Independent Expert on human rights and international solidarity.
I would like to take this opportunity to share the followings:
As it’s highlighted in the report, it is imperative for States to join in full support of international solidarity to ensure the realization of optimal global equity in the enjoyment of access to COVID-19 vaccines.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has been severely challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic along with many people lost. Their life. Although the process of vaccination has been accelerated, due to financial or trade sanctions, it was quite difficult to proceed with the vaccine import process earlier.
We welcome the need for renewed multilateralism that is indeed already being undermined. While the report welcomes international solidarity, it lacks mention of the negative impacts of unilateral coercive measures by a State or group of States that exacerbated the challenges and problems of access to vaccines, and consequently the right to life of people in concerned countries. Mr. SR, do you planning any initiative to raise and follow the issue of UCMs in collaboration with other Special Rapporteurs in the near future?
Thank you.
