Explanation of Position of the Islamic Republic of Iran

 On Resolution entitled Population and sustainable development,

in particular sustained and inclusive economic growth

Mr. Chairperson, 

My delegation would like to thank you and other members of the bureau and Secretariat for their tireless efforts in bringing this session to a successful conclusion. My thanks also go to the co -facilitators (El Salvador and Netherland) for their able leadership during the negotiation process.

Mr. Chairperson, 

The Islamic Republic of Iran joined   consensus   on   the   draft resolution entitled ‘Population and sustainable development, in particular sustained and inclusive economic growth’ due to our understanding that the provisions of this resolution and its implementation are based on our national rules and legislations, cultural   backgrounds   and   national   development   priorities, particularly on social, epidemic and epidemiologic context. 

Furthermore, we assume that any references to "reproductive health and reproductive rights" in various paras of the draft resolution are in accordance with the ICPD Programme of Action and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and that such references shall not be construed as a precedent in future negotiations on the subject.
