On Draft Resolution “Follow-up to the Report of the Secretary-General entitled

Our Common Agenda” (A/76/L.8/Rev.1)

New York, 14 November 2021

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

Mr. President,

My delegation would like to express its appreciation to the President of the General Assembly for facilitating the discussions aimed at bridging the gaps between the different views regarding the adoption of this procedural resolution. We are grateful to the cosponsors of the draft resolution and the like-minded group for their cooperation and flexibility to reach consensus.

We would also like to thank the Secretary-General for the submission of his forward-looking report on “Our Common Agenda” which encompasses the challenges we face and presents a range of recommendations in order to address them. Since its submission, the Member States have presented different views and observations regarding the several new concepts and proposals contained in the report, necessitating close and careful consideration by Member States. We wish to emphasize that successful consideration of the Secretary-General’s report will be relied on greatly for the continuation of the spirit of compromise and understanding.

Due to its extensive implications for the work of organization, the report will need to be considered through timely and in-depth discussions, and any decision on these recommendations requires negotiations among Member States within an inter-governmental process. Bearing in mind the fact that the report contains a number of proposals which fall within the existing mandates, we need to avoid duplications and imposition of undue budgetary implications on the organization.

My delegation is prepared to engage actively in the consideration of this important report within the intergovernmental process and looks forward to continued engagement with the Secretariat in this endeavor.
