Explanation of Vote of the Islamic Republic of Iran

On Draft Resolution L.47: “Problems arising from the accumulation of

conventional ammunition stockpiles in surplus”

Mr. Chairman,

I have taken the floor to explain the position of my delegation regarding the draft resolution “Problems arising from the accumulation of conventional ammunition stockpiles in surplus” contained in document L.47.

We will abstain on this draft. In line with its position explained in the relevant consultations, my delegation believes that the suggestion to establish an OEWG without and before appropriate consideration of the 2021 GGE report by the member states is a hasty decision. In fact, there was no pressing need to take that step and we were not convinced of the proposal.

We further believe that, as stated in the related briefings, the GGE has operated outside of its mandate, and that this should be taken very seriously by the member states.
