Reply of the Delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran
to the Statement by the United States
Before the Third Committee, UNGA 76
New York, 14 October 2021
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
Mr. Chair,
The right to freedom of expression and hold peaceful assembly is recognized in the Constitution and other regulations of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Holding any assembly is free; and the right to freedom of assembly is subject to peaceful nature thereof, as well as the non-use of weapons, whether firearms and armes blanches, and more importantly, non-use of violence against people and the police, and non-destruction of public and private property; as in both domestic and international laws and norms, no authorization has been given for violent assemblies.
The United States and its allies encourage and train the so-called protesters to take up arms, cause unrest and damage public and private property. However, when it comes to the U.S. itself, it crushes demonstrations and lunches a heavy-handed crackdown on demonstrators. The U.S. Police’s violent response to anti-racism protesters is not a mystery to anyone and well-documented. How is it possible that the U.S. lectures others on human rights?
I thank you.
