Reply of the Delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran
to the Statement by the United States
Before the Third Committee, UNGA 76
New York, 18 October 2021
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
Mr. Chair,
Emphasizing the fulfillment of all its international human rights obligations, the Islamic Republic of Iran fully recognizes the right to freedom of expression and opinion. For proper implementation of Article 23 and 24 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran wherein the right to freedom of opinion, thought and conscious has been stipulated, the law – as per Article 608 of the Islamic Penal Code – has prescribed punishment only for individuals who misuse freedom of expression to violate public and private rights of others.
In recent decades, new iterations of extremism such as Islamophobic ultra-right movements have found fertile grounds in some western societies but never managed to gain foothold in Iran courtesy of its social composition. Anti-discriminatory measures adopted by the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran coupled with practices charted via the spirit of Islamic brotherhood have contributed to the societal inoculation against influences of such nature. Ethno-terrorism and other forms of terror-inspired movements have also been unable to further their agenda due to the comprehensive set of laws and regulations that are designed to counter organized crime.
They rose to prominence in 21st Century and found many donors in the west, where some high-ranking officials, such as the former U.S. Secretary of State, acknowledged funneling arms and resources to what became al-Qaeda and ISIS. Just take a look at almost all human rights violations taking place across the globe, especially in war-ravaged countries, then you can see that the root cause of people’s plights and miseries is the U.S. and its unholy allies.
Now I would like to pose a question to the distinguished chair, delegates and representatives, don’t you think it is time to bring an end to the United States’ pathetic human rights charade?
I thank you.
