Explanation of Position of the Islamic Republic of Iran
On Draft resolution on “UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons” (A/75/L.93)
Before the General Assembly
New York, 7 June 2021
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
Mr. President,
While appreciating the efforts by the Permanent Representatives of Georgia and the Philippines, respectively, and emphasizing on the importance of the contributions made by civil society in constructively engaging with Member States and the UN system, my delegation would like to register an explanation of position on the OP9 of the draft resolution A/75/L.93.
My delegation is of the view that the current wording of OP9 does not adequately address the concerns raised by many delegations during the informal discussions. On the other hand, the wording does not have consensual terms and it is not as per well-established practice based on previous resolutions on modalities.
In this regard, the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran disassociates itself from the OP9 in the draft resolution A/75/L.93.
My delegation would also like to request that this Explanation of Position be put in the official records of this session and be included in the relevant report.
Thank you.
