Ms. Fatemeh Arab Bafrani
Second Secretary
Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations
Before the Third Committee of the 78th Session of the General Assembly
On Agenda Item 71 (a-d): Promotion and protection of human rights
Interactive Dialogue with the Assistant Secretary-General, including the Report on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran
New York, 12 October 2023
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Mr. Chair,
I thank madam ASG for the briefing.
We will limit our statement to the report of the SG on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iran has repeatedly emphasized that granting the Secretary-General the task of compiling a country-specific report on human rights, despite the existence of other international human rights mechanisms, including UPR is fundamentally illogical and unreasonable.
It should be highlighted that the skewed judgments and prejudices set forth in the report to discredit the achievements realized in the Country compromises the various developments in the legislative and executive spheres.
It should be noted that the content of such a report should, and is expected to, be based on verified information.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has always responded to the claims made in the draft reports with a serious determination for cooperation and interaction with the international mechanisms, including on the verdicts of the Supreme Court, regulations regarding hijab, among others.
I thank you.
