In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

 Excellency,

Upon instructions from my Government and with reference to the letter dated 9 August 2023 from the Chargé d’affairs of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/2023/592), I would like to reiterate the following:

The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects the unfounded allegations made against its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the aforementioned letter and regards the contents of the letter as a flagrant and unjustified interference in its internal affairs, in full contradiction to the principle of good neighborliness, and in blatant violation of basic principles of international law and the UN Charter.

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates its sovereignty over the Iranian islands of Abu Musa, the Greater Tunb, and the Lesser Tunb in the Persian Gulf and emphasizes that all decisions and measures taken by Iranian authorities have always been and will continue to be based on the principle of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran. These three Iranian islands have historically been and will continue to remain integral parts of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the United Arab Emirates, as a fellow member of the United Nations, to cease its unlawful and politically motivated actions and to respect and adhere to fundamental principles of international law, particularly the principles of independent sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states that serve as the bedrock upon which the United Nations was founded.

I would be grateful if you would circulate the present letter as a document of the Security Council.

Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
